Show 10. AN INVESTMENT OF $1000 AT THE HIGH OF THE MARKET IN 1956 WOULD BY MERGER TIME HAVE YIELDED $4,300 IN DIVIDENDS AND APPRECIATED TO $42,900. HAD THE DIVIDENDS BEEN REINVESTED IN UTAH SHARES AS RECEIVED, THE INVESTMENT VALUE WOULD HAVE REACHED $70,000. UTAH'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS STAND OUT IN TRUER PERSPECTIVE WHEN MEASURED AGAINST ITS COMPETITORS. ONCE WE CONSIDERED MORRISON-KNUDSEN WAS FOUR TIMES UTAH'S SIZE BY ALMOST ANY MEASUREMENT. BY 1976 THE TWO COMPANIES HAD ABOUT EQUAL GROSS REVENUES BUT OUR MARKET VALUE WAS OVER 20 TIMES THEIRS. WHEN WE ENTERED THE MINING FIELD, WE WERE DWARFED BY SUCH GIANTS AS KENNECOTT, ANACONDA, PHELPS DODGE, HOMESTAKE, - EVEN OUR ERSTWHILE PARTNERS, CYPRUS MINES. BY 1976 WE HAD THE LARGEST PROFITS AND THE HIGHEST MARKET VALUE OF ANY MINING COMPANY HEADQUARTERED IN THE UNITED STATES, ALL THIS I USED TO TELL WITHOUT AMPLIFICATION TO THE SECURITY ANALYSTS. IT WAS THE TRUTH - BUT NOT THE WHOLE TRUTH. SECURITY |
