Show 19. WERE BEST DEVELOPED. So WE SET OUT TO ACQUIRE MINING PERSONNEL AND HERE THE RECORD SUGGESTS WE CAME UP WITH THE BEST. BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE MOVE WHILE OUR COMPETITORS WERE PROCEEDING LESS AGGRESSIVELY, WE ATTRACTED THOSE WHO WERE MORE VENTURESOME, MORE DETERMINED TO GET THINGS DONE, MORE SKILLED IN CONCEIVING WHAT TO DO. PERHAPS WE WOULD HAVE STUMBLED LESS FREQUENTLY WITH BETTER STAFF IN PLACE BUT WE DID HAVE SOMETHING GOING FOR US. AROUND THE BOARD TABLE WERE THE PRINCIPAL OWNERS OF THE BUSINESS, AND THE BEST OF THEM WERE INFECTED WITH THE ENTREPRENNEURIAL SPIRIT TEMPERED BY THE FACT THAT THEY WERE BETTING WITH THEIR OWN CHIPS. THE GREAT MAJORITY DID NOT WORK FULL TIME FOR THE COMPANY AND LATER WERE JOINED BY OTHER INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS, THOUGH NOT BIG SHAREHOLDERS, OF A QUALITY THAT I WOULD STACK UP AGAINST THE BEST DIRECTORS ANYWHERE. MANAGEMENT TOOK THE LEAD BUT THE BOARD MADE THE FINAL |
