Show We have more government than we have found means to pay for and some of us may feel more government than we really need. So if we leave behind an imperfect world, we leave it a far better place than we found it. A balanced judgment would say we've done our work well. So let's have a toast to all of us - the wonderful people in the Class of 1936! * * * I would now like to turn the microphone over to the first of our two speakers - Amy Edwards. Amy was a career woman who has served with distinction both in the private sector and with many civic and charitable organizations. She will speak for the Five Hundred. Before introducing our final speaker, let me report that Alan Cranston called me yesterday from Washington to say that Senate Business prevented him from being here this evening, but that he would be at the cocktail party tomorrow afternoon. Our final speaker served as Student Body President which was a precursor of things to come. After his graduation from Stanford Wally was a Rhodes Scholar, earning his PhD at Oxford University and later got his medical degree from John Hopkins in 1941. Wally served in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps in World War II with duty in such spots as Guam and Japan. After the War he practiced medicine in Salt Lake City and established himself as a leader in his profession both as a surgeon and as the head of all the appropriate medical societies. He has received the Distinguished Service Award both from the Utah State Medical Association and from the National Association of Blue Cross Plans. Wally is now retired and at long last has time for his hobbies of tennis, golf, fishing and traveling. Here is your old friend - Wally Brooke. 4. |
