Show 5. AND WITH GOOD HUMOR. IT WAS IN THE BEST TRADITION OF AN ORGANI-ZATION THAT KNOWS WHEN TO TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY AND WHEN NOT TO TAKE ITSELF TOO SERIOUSLY. ON THE SERIOUS SIDE - AND SINCE HE IS NOT HERE TO STOP ME - I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT CHARLIE'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS ORGANIZATION HAVE BEEN ENORMOUS. FOUR MERIT SPECIAL ATTENTION TONIGHT. His MANAGEMENT OF THE VERY DIFFICULT SEPARATION FROM STANFORD WAS ONE OF DETERMINATION, WITH RESPECT FOR THE VIEWS AND BEST INTERESTS OF BOTH INSTITUTIONS. I WOULD SAY THAT THE MAJORITY OPINION STILL VIEWS THIS AS A POSITIVE STEP AND THAT IS A TRIBUTE TO CHARLIE ANDERSON. HE TURNED SRI AROUND FROM WHAT HAD BEEN CALLED A "FARMERS' MARKET MENTALITY", WHERE EACH PRODUCER HAD HIS OWN STALL. HE BROUGHT THE ORGANIZATION TO A MORE UNIFIED VIEW OF ITSELF AND |
