UTAH DID IT BY BEING A NEW ENTRANT IN OLD BUSINESSES AND DOING THEM BETTER THAN THEIR COMPETITORS. OBVIOUSLY THE MARKET PUTS A HIGHER VALUE ON H-P'S ABILITY TO SUSTAIN DOING THEIR THING BUT THE H-P WAY WAS NOT OPEN TO UTAH, FOR THE DISTANCE WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO GREAT A LEAP. TAKE GIANT STEPS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT NOT SO BIG THAT YOU FALL ON YOUR FACE. HOW YOU DO IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT. HERE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN H-P AND UTAH DIMINISH. BOTH RUN QUALITY SHOWS AND INSIST ON INTEGRITY IN CORPORATE CONDUCT AND IN PRODUCTS PRODUCED OR SERVICES PERFORMED. BOTH ENJOY WIDE PROFIT MARGINS, BOTH HAVE DEVELOPED A MANAGEMENT STYLE THAT HAS PUT AND HAS KEPT THEIR COMPANIES IN THE FOREFRONT OF THEIR INDUSTRIES.
