E. W. Littlefield Remarks - Marie Eck Brandin Tissue Culture Lab November 29, 1982 Dr. Ciaranello has described this laboratory as a unique facility and it is named for a very unique person. Marie Eck Brandin occupied a very special place in the hearts of each and every member of the Littlefield family. Marie, Alf and I were the strongest of friends from our freshman days at Stanford. After Jeannik and I were married the Brandins and the Littlefields became the closest of couples. Marie had the great ability to relate to people of all ages. Each of our children adored her and found a home in her home. She was my daughter Denise's godmother and her very special friend. Out of this shared sentiment we wanted to do something in Marie's memory that she would have appreciated and that would have reflected her sense of values. Daughter of a doctor, she had a natural interest in medicine. Each of our three children insisted on participating equally with Jeannik and me in doing what we could to create this laboratory in her memory. Marie will always remain etched in our memories and deep in our heartfelt affections.
