MOST OF YOU KNOW THAT BlLL CAME TO SRI FROM STANFORD UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE HAD A DISTINGUISHED RECORD AS PROVOST AND HELD A FULL PROFESSORSHIP IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND WAS THE FIRST HERBERT HOOVER PROFESSOR OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MANAGEMENT IN THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS. IN A MINUTE, BILL WILL RECAP THE HIGHLIGHTS OF SRI's 1979 YEAR FOR YOU, BUT FIRST IT MIGHT BE USEFUL TO YOU TO LEARN SOME FACTS ABOUT SRI's NEW LEADER, BILL WAS TRAINED AS A THEORETICAL PHYSICIST AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY AND BEGAN HIS CAREER IN THIS FIELD AT THE ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORIES IN ILLINOIS.
