WE KEPT CLOSE CONTROL OVER NEW INVESTMENT AND THESE DECISIONS WERE MADE ONLY AFTER CAREFUL SCRUTINY AT THE MANAGEMENT LEVEL, AT THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE LEVEL, AND AT THE BOARD LEVEL. IF THE CORPORATION IS GOING TO GROW, ITS MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO HAVE AN INTOLERANCE FOR THE STATUS QUO, A DISSATISFACTION WITH THINGS AS THEY ARE, A CONSTANT SEARCH FOR THE BETTER WAY. WE HAD TO DECIDE WHAT WE WANTED TO DO AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT WE DIDN'T WANT TO DO. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE CONTRACT CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS WAS HELD IN VERY LOW ESTEEM BY THE INVESTING PUBLIC. WE SOLD OUR CONSTRUCTION ASSETS WHEN THIS DIVISION HAD ACHIEVED THE HIGHEST PROFITABILITY IN ITS HISTORY, AT THE TIME OF THE SALE THE CONSTRUCTION DIVISION ACCOUNTED FOR OVER |
