WELCOME TO THE BOHEMIAN BAY BRIDGE BIRTHDAY BASH, AN INFORMAL SALUTE TO THE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF THE SILVER BRIDGE. CONSISTENT WITH THE OFFICIAL CELEBRATION OF THIS BRIDGE'S BIRTHDAY, THIS SHOW IS A LOW-BUDGET PRODUCTION. HOPEFULLY WE WILL COVER IN ONE NIGHT WHAT THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE HAS SCHEDULED FOR 10 ISSUES. IN MONDAY'S NEWSPAPER THE ARTICLE DWELT NOSTALGICALLY ON THE JOYS OF RIDING THE FERRY BOATS ACROSS THE BAY. I SUSPECT IT WAS WRITTEN BY A REPORTER WHO WAS AS YET UNBORN WHEN THE FERRIES PLIED THE BAY, FOR HE MADE IT SOUND LIKE A WEEKDAY DURING THE MIDSUMMER ENCAMPMENT - GOOD FOOD, THE QUIET COMPANIONSHIP OF FRIENDS. NO MENTION WAS MADE OF THE FRANTIC DASH TO CATCH THE OVERCROWDED 1. |
