Show EDMUND W. LITTLEFIELD REMARKS BHP DIRECTORS DINNER - JUNE 26, 1986 THANK YOU, GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS OCCASION CAN BE A TIME FOR MOURNING OR FOR THANKSGIVING. I HAVE SCREENED THE LIST FOR THINGS TO BE SAD ABOUT AND THE ONLY SURVIVOR IS THE FACT THAT MY NEXT TRIP TO AUSTRALIA WILL BE THE FIRST TRIP OF THE MANY TRIPS HERE SINCE 1951 WHEN I WILL NOT BE TRAVELING ON AN EXPENSE ACCOUNT. OTHERWISE I FIND NO CAUSE FOR REGRET. LIFE HAS TREATED ME VERY WELL INDEED AND AUSTRALIA HAS BEEN A BIG FACTOR IN MY LIFE. I HAVE MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR. IT HAS BEEN MY PRIVILEGE TO HAVE BEEN AN OFFICER AND DIRECTOR OF THE UTAH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND ITS SUCCESSORS FOR SOME THIRTY-FIVE YEARS. FOR TWENTY-ONE OF THOSE YEARS I WAS - UNDER ONE TITLE OR ANOTHER - ITS PRINCIPAL EXECUTIVE OFFICER. WHEN I JOINED THE COMPANY IN 1951 IT HAD A NET WORTH OF LESS THAN $15 MILLION AND HAD EARNED A NET PROFIT OF $1 1/2 MILLION THE PRECEDING YEAR. |
