Show 20. DECISIONS. IT DEMONSTRATED A WILLINGNESS TO MAKE THE HARD DECISIONS AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS ON A TIMELY BASIS. WE WERE ALSO EFFECTIVE BECAUSE THE BOARD STUCK TO DOING THE BOARD'S BUSINESS AND LET MANAGEMENT DO ITS JOB. MOST BOARDS MEET TOO OFTEN AND HAVE TOO MUCH TIME TO MEDDLE IN MATTERS NOT THEIR PROPER CONCERN. THE UTAH BOARD MEETS ONLY QUARTERLY, ALL DAY LONG IF NECESSARY AND AFTER DOING MUCH HOMEWORK, AND THIS HAS KEPT THEIR ATTENTION FOCUSED ON THE RIGHT PROBLEMS. FROM OUR CONSTRUCTION DAYS WE INHERITED A MANAGEMENT STYLE THAT STREAMLINED THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS AND FAVORED THOSE WHO WERE WILLING TO MAKE DECISIONS AND CAPABLE OF MAKING THEIR SHARE OF CORRECT DECISIONS. EXCEPT AT THE BOARD LEVEL THERE WERE NO STANDING COMMITTEES, OUR ORGANIZATION WAS SMALL, COHESIVE, AND THE LINES OF AUTHORITY WERE CLEAR, WE WERE NIMBLE WHEN WE NEEDED |
