But lets go back a few years, to the time before there was a bridge, when it took a half hour (?) from the time you got on the ferry till you got off on the other side. It gave folks a sense of freedom, and it made them wanted to get up and go. And everybody wanted one. This is Market street in the 1920's. There was just about every kind of transportation imaginable. By the 1930's market street and San Francisco were growing faster and the automobile was more and more a dominate force. The increasing population and number of vehicles was beginning to have its effect. Only a few things haven't changed. 15.
