Show It is not that the Fullers are uneducated. They simply refuse to put their education to good use. Parmer's younger brother George has a Ph.D in Chemistry but he'd rather play the piano than be a chemist. His youngest brother John interspersed sabbatical leaves with his studies at Stanford and may well hold the record in total elapsed time taken to graduate from Stanford. Professionally both took very early retirement. W. P. Ill studied law at Harvard, is a member of the California Bar - but that is the only bar in California that he has never put to good use. He did, however, display consistent talent in climbing up organi- zational ladders. Recognition came to him early and often in both commercial and civic pursuits. He was a relatively young man when he was made a member of the Board of Directors of W. P. Fuller & Co., a firm started almost a hundred years earlier by his grandfather. With that triumph behind him he was then elected to the Boards of the old Wells Fargo Bank, the Yosemite Park & Curry Co., and the Western Pacific Railroad. Each of these companies was strong, well established, and firmly rooted in the history of the Far West. It may not be entirely coincidental that during the Fuller incumbency on these Boards of Directors, each of these companies has been or is about to be merged out of existence. Parmer's services were not merely in demand at the policy level but also sought in an executive capacity. He was very young when he served as President of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. That was followed by his Presidency of the Stanford Board of Trustees and later of the Bohemian Club. Through these assignments run a common thread.
