Show THE EASTERN SECTION CALLED FOR BUILDING A CANTILEVER SPAN LONGER THAN ANY EVER ATTEMPTED IN THE UNITED STATES,SUPPORTED BY THE DEEPEST PIER EVER SUNK. THE TWO SECTIONS WERE TIED TOGETHER BY THE DOUBLE-DECK TUNNEL, THEN THE LARGEST VEHICULAR TUNNEL EVER BUILT. IT REMAINS AN ACHIEVEMENT AS IMPRESSIVE TODAY AS IT WAS A HALF-CENTURY AGO. BOHEMIANS MAY NOT HAVE BUILT THE BRIDGE BY THEMSELVES BUT IT CERTAINLY COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BUILT WITHOUT US. SINCE BOHEMIANS PLAYED A MAJOR PART IN BUILDING THE BRIDGE, WE THINK IT IS FITTING THAT THE BRIDGE BE HONORED AFTER 50 YEARS OF SERVICE. WE SALUTE THE BAY BRIDGE, AND THOSE MEN WHO HAD THE VISION AND ABILITY TO UNDERTAKE SUCH A GIGANTIC TASK. 4. |
