Pair Named Transport Unit Chiefs Red Cross solicitation of the transportation industry in Weber county this year will be directed by John F. Baker and Alfred E. Inselberger, division co-chairmen. Workers are being organized for an intensified effort which wills tart March 6 under direction of the following sub-charimen: C. S. Eccles, electric lines and busses; Clair Butters, trucks; Wallace O. Walker, D. & R. G. W. railroad; Owen A. Durrant, Union Pacific railroad; Howard Wilson, dining car and hotel; J. J. Hardy, Ogden Union Railway & Depot Co., and Howard E. Watts, Southern Pacific. Heading the overall drive this year will be Gene Robinson. He has urged all county residents to support the drive in 1950 as they have in previous years. 3-17-50 Staff Reminded Of Luncheon Division workers in the 1950 Weber county American Red Cross fund drive were reminded today of the third report luncheon, to be held Friday at noon in the Hotel Ben Lomond ballroom. Gene Robinson, drive chairman, urged workers to put forth an extra effort to see that their reports and collections are complete. This luncheon will be sponsored by the First Security bank, Amalgamated Sugar Co., and Becker Products Co. As of the second report luncheon, Friday, March 10, workers had realized $18,090 – 40 per cent of their goal of $44,865. Both expressed confidence the quota of $44, 865, would be reached next week when final reports are tabulated. Red Cross Goal in Sign As Drive Nears and End Division chairmen of the 1950 Weber county American Red Cross drive will gather for a final check-up meeting Friday March 24, at one p.m. at the chapter home, 1961 Washington. Gene Robinson, drive chairman, said it was anticipated funds would reach the $44,865 goal on or before that date. He said several thousand dollars is in sight that would be put on the books before then. The drive officially ends Monday. At the third and final general report meeting Friday, workers reported a total of $37,687 or 84 percent of the assigned goal. Next Friday’s meeting will be for drive officials and division officials only, it was explained. Arrangements have been made with the Southern Pacific shops that when collections reach the quota, whistles will blow to herald the event. Four divisions reported going over the top Friday. The military division, headed the list exceeding its quota by 19 per cent. Each of the four military installations in the division contributed funds above their assigned sum with the Utah general depot lading with $3,042 or 145 per cent. Hill air force base employes contributed $3,129 or 118 percent. The Clearfield naval supply depot gathered $2, 012, 103 percent and the Ogden arsenal, $960, 101 per cent. Other divisions reporting success were, public employes, women’s and contractors. Outstanding reports by individual team captains were turned in by Mrs. C. J. Olson, women’s division with a collection of $372 or 158 per cent of her quota, and Mrs. Athlene Fishburn, city offices, of the public employes division, $559 or 155 per cent. Reports from other divisions were as follows: women’s clubs, $183, 67 per cent; commercial, $5,124, 62 per cent; men’s clubs, $220, 88 per cent; industrial, $5,806, 89 per cent; transportation, $3,042, 80 per cent; men’s division, $1,947, 70 per cent and Weber county, $181, 10 per cent. Sponsors of Friday’s luncheon were the First Security bank, Amalgamated Sugar Co, and Becker Product Co. Speakers were Chairman Robinson and Olin H. Ririe, chapter chairman. Division Has Good Mark In Campaign Among the leaders in the 1950 Weber County American Red Cross fund drive is the public employes group which reported 68 per cent of its assigned quota collected. Headed by Ed Vendell as chairman, division workers collected, as of Friday, $2,391. The quota is $3,542. Assisting Vendell in the efforts of the division are team captains James M. Hockaday, covering federal employes; David M. Welling, state; Althene Fishburn, city; Lyman M. Hess, county; Cloyd Bartonek, city schools, and L. Rulon Jenkins, county schools. |
