The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show FOR RELEASE FEBRUARY 15, 1950 Governor J. Bracken Lee today urged the people of Utah to continue their support of the work of the American National Red Cross in the annual fund campaign which begins March 1. In a proclamation calling attention to the contributions made to the Nation’s welfare by the humanitarian activities of the Red Cross, Governor Lee warned against any curtailment of the organizations services, particularly in the field of disaster relief and services to the armed forces and veterans. Text of the Proclamation was as follows: WHEREAS, the American Red Cross has achieved an enviable reputation for its humanitarian activities, and has contributed much to the nation’s welfare, and WHEREAS, the public constantly calls upon the Red Cross when disasters occur, and thousands of sufferers each year are cared for and comforted by volunteer workers of this charitable organization and WHEREAS, our veterans and soldiers are entertained and cared for, counseled and guided by the Red Cross; and our civilian populace is trained to meet all kinds of emergencies through the various training courses sponsored and taught by the Red Cross; and WHEREAS, there must be no curtailment of these essential services in the years ahead, there being no indication of a need to decrease necessary functions, or a warning of when disaster may strike, and WHEREAS, to carry on its splendid work in Utah, and elsewhere, the American Red Cross will seek a minimum of $67,000,000 in voluntary contributions throughout the nation; Now, therefore, I, J. Bracken lee, Governor of the State of Utah, do hereby designate the period from March 1 to 31, 1950 as 1950 AMERICAN RED CROSS CAMPAIGN Month, and do urge the people of Utah to maintain their notable record of support for this organization in the coming appeal for funds. |
