Show THE SECRETARY OF STATE WASHINGTON Americans have come to think of the Red Cross as a synonym for help in time of national disaster. We rely on its swift and efficient assistance to ease suffering and to provide for the immediate needs of disaster victims. As individual citizens, we find it a strong and sympathetic friend in time of trouble. In this period of international tension, the Red Cross is an essential part of our national defense effort. Through its Blood Donor Program, American lives are being saved in Korea. Through its welfare activities both here and abroad, our military men and women have a permanent link with family and friends at home In Red Cross first-aid and nursing classes, millions of people are learning the fundamentals of civilian defense. The need is particularly acute this year for liberal public support of American Red Cross activities. This humanitarian organization is financed through volun¬tary contributions exclusively. The extent of its operations is therefore determined by the generosity of the American people. I am sure we will all do our share and more in support of this cause. DEAN ACHESON |
