The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show ORGANIZE 1. Complete list of such contributors, using former records. Check new arrivals against this list, also deaths and departures. Utilize rosters of clubs and organizations; advertisements; the Chamber of Commerce; classified telephone lists. Prepare two sets of these lists, one for campaign office files, the other for assignment to workers. 2. Complete soliciting teams in this division, enlisting enough workers to call on every prospect. 3. Plan meeting of the workers, with time enough for brief information and assignment of prospects. SOLICIT 1. Begin solicitation prior to general canvass. Complete before March 1. 2. Check frequently with all workers. 3. Recognize that these gifts set campaign standards, so begin with a good prospect first. 4. Hold one or two report meetings. INDUSTRIAL DIVISION FIELD OF OPERATION All industries, utilities, and commerce within the chapter jurisdiction. PLAN 1. Make list of all firms having 10 or more employees. 2. Assign quota to entire division. 3. Obtain the name of the ranking executive and the number of employees. 4. Prepare a prospect card for each firm, including suggestions for corporate gift, name of executive, and the number of employees. 5. Determine number of workers needed. ORGANIZE 1. Arrange for endorsement of campaign by local unions and management. 2. Assign reasonable number of firms to each division worker. 3. Visit head of firm to obtain name of company chairman in each plant. 4. Encourage the formation of a committee representing both management and labor to plan method of solicitation and suggest standard of giving. 5. Plan for voluntary payroll deduction. 6. Have company chairman obtain solicitors in all departments or floors—about -8- 20 employees to a solicitor. 7. Send speakers, posters, campaign supplies. Utilize public address equipment. SOLICIT 1. Contact firms for their gift in December (in case they want to include it in income tax report; industrial budgets for the year are often planned in January). 2. Contact firms again in February if they did not make gift in December. 3. Hold rally for all employees, or meetings, department by department. 4. Start soliciting executives and employees on pay day, preferably by the middle of February. 5. Issue membership cards to contributors of $1 or more. 6. Feature use of 100% poster. SPECIAL GROUPS DIVISION FIELD OF OPERATION Nonprofit payroll units in the community such as federal, state, county^ and municipal government offices; public school teachers; colleges, hospitals, and other institutions. PLAN 1. Select a committee large enough to call on all such units. 2. Plan best approach to these groups. The right' person to see is especially important in these public agencies. Assign quota. 3. Obtain appointment of keyman for each group unit who will be responsible for the campaign among personnel. ORGANIZE 1. Obtain approval of senior executive of each group unit for campaign among personnel. 2. Be sure lists of all group units are complete, with name of best person to approach. 3. Type on each card the number of personnel in the group unit, name of person to see, previous contribution record, and other helpful information. 4. Arrange for speakers, posters, literature, supplies. SOLICIT 1. Start calls on or before March 1. 2. Keep in close touch with keyman in each unit. -9- |
