When the foregoing important news is heralded, the people are at once assured that everything humanly possible is being done for the victims of the disaster irrespective of race, color or creed. The Red Cross belongs to the people of America. Again this noble organization appeals to all our people for funds needed to carry out its vast and vital service. It is indeed gratifying that there is in this country an organization composed of competent regular employees, assisted by thousands of volunteer men and women, who stand ready at all hours of the day and night to rush to the aid of countless victims of flood, fire, famine or other disasters. How comforting it is to know that this organization also provides blood and plasma for the Armed Forces, gives welfare services to those in camps and in veterans' hospitals, and furnishes relief and rehabilitation funds to thousands of others in communities struck by disaster. It is al60 continually training additional millions of Americans in first aid in peace time or war time. In aiding the stricken, its workers marvelously overcome all barriers. The story of the Red Cross is the story of the great and good soul of America. Its members have been truly characterized as Angels of Mercy. I strongly urge everyone to respond generously to this magnif- icently worthwhile cause. Let us all have a share in this humanitarian Job. In contributing to the Red Cross we become God!s helpers in alleviating misery and suffering.
