The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show last year - 520 received certificates in Unit 1 "Care of the Sick" 403 received certificates in Unit II “Mother & Baby Care & Family Health" CA1SP AND HOSPITAL COUNCIL This council is state wide and chapters are assigned various tasks. Last Christmas Weber County Chapter with the assistance of some clubs, gave 30 gifts beautifully wrapped to the patients at the State Mental Hospital. 24 gifts were sent from our chapter to Veterans Hospital for prizes 24 tray favors made and sent to veterans Hospital for Christmas 36 small plants contributed for Veterans May Day party INSTRUCTION AND ENTERTAINI.ENT This committee purchased and wrapped 25 beautiful gifts and sacked 90 pounds of candy for the patients at Hill Field Station Hospital last Christmas. Decorations and lights for Christmas trees were provided, and the recreation hall was decorated with gay Christmas colors by these women. NURSES AIDES Nurses Aides who served in the last war are being contacted to ascertain their avail¬ability for the blood program as well as disaster service. Twenty-one Nurses Aides served at the Utah General Depot during the taking of blood in February. BLOOD PROGRAM: The National American Red Cross has been given the responsibility of supplying blood and blood plasma for the Armed Forces. Red Cross blood banks are now supplying 91,000 pints of blood monthly. Our chapter is assisting the Weber County Medical Society in typing the blood f the citizens of the county, by supplying clerical and other help. This typing now may expedite transfusions in case of enemy attack. It will also be beneficial when Red Cross mobile units come into the community for blood for military use. JUNIOR RED CROSS Promotes understanding among children of the world and teaches self sacrifice and good citizenship. Goodwill spread today - may bring peace tomorrow. 15,765 school youngsters enrolled in Junior Red Cross 1,200 Christmas boxes sent to children in foreign lands albums were exchanged with European countries depicting customs of each Christmas menu cards were sent to servicemen on ships 557 High School girls and boys received First Aid Training 827 High School girls received Home Nursing RED CROSS COLLEGE UNITS Organized to assist the chapter in various services. Last year, this unit publishes two bulletins depicting Red Cross activities, also furnished refreshments and enter¬tainment for one of the parties held at the Veterans Hospital. MOTOR CORPS Our motor corps is on the job 2k hours daily meeting all emergencies. An average of eight trips per week are made transporting veterans to the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake, polio and spastic children to Salt Lake General Hospital, children to health clinic, tuberculosis patients for tests at the Sanitorium and the blind to a class held each week at the State School. -2- |
