The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show E. LaMar Buckner One Final Boost Needed to Top Red Cross Goal A final appeal was made today by officials of the 1951 American Red Cross drive for contributions as only $1200 is needed to make the drive a success. E. LaMar Buckner, drive chair¬man, said contributions to date have reached $52,730 or 98 percent of the county goal, $53,934. He said if each division solicitor of the drive would turn in an additional $10 the drive would be over the top. Chairman Buckner also appealed to anyone desiring to make a last- minute or an additional contribu-tion, to contact the Weber county chapter home, 1961 Washington. He said workers would see that the donation was picked up. . Meanwhile, Chapter Chairman Olin H. Ririe, who turned off the neon Red Cross symbol atop the chapter home at the opening of the drive said: "The symbol is still unlighted. We want to turn it back on before April 24. Your additional contribu¬tion will be gratefully accepted and the re-lighting of the symbol will reveal to all the generosity of the people of Weber county." No Red Cross drive has ever failed in Weber county. Chairman Buckner reminded residents in urging further contributions. 3/15/51 Hoopmen ‘Pitch’ for Red Cross Entire proceeds from Protestant basketball league championship playoffs are turned over to E. LaMar Buckner, Red Cross fund drive chairman, center, by C. J. Santoro, left, league president, and Wesley Rose, treasurer. Coffers of the 1951 Weber County Red Cross drive swelled today with addition of the proceeds from the Protestant basketball league cham¬pionship playoff last night. E. LaMar Buckner, drive chair¬man, reminded campaign workers today of the second report lunch¬eon scheduled tomorrow at noon at the chapter home, 1961 Wash¬ington. The luncheon will be sponsored by the Commercial Security bank and the First Security bank. He urged division leaders to be pres¬ent and report collections to date. Proceeds from the basketball game netted the drive $41.98, he said. C. J. Santoro, league presi¬dent, and Wesley Rose, treasurer, turned the money over to Mr. Buck¬ner. "We are especially grateful for this donation," he said, "because it was entirely unsolicited." At the first report luncheon last Friday workers gathered $15,448 of the total goal of $51,934, or 28 per-cent. It is hoped contributions re¬ported tomorrow will boost collec¬tions to 75 percent of quota. |
