Show Democrat, Republican or whatever ..." ‘Date Is Set for Next Report of Red Cross 3/12/50 Third report luncheon of the 1950 Weber county American Red Cross drive will be held Friday, Match 17, at noon in the Hotel Ben Lo¬mond ballroom, it was announced Saturday by Gene Robinson, gen-eral chairman. Sponsors of the luncheon will be the First Security bank, Amalga-mated Sugar Co., and Becker Prod-ucts Co. Workers in the drive reported a collection of $18,090 — 40 per cent of their goal of $44,865 — at the second report luncheon Friday. Chairman Robinson said although the report was "encouraging" it was below the sum collected at the second 'report luncheon last year, when SO per cent was realized. "It behooves all volunteers 'o work a little harder and completely cover their assigned collection places in order that the 1950 drive may be as successful as those in the past.” "Our records show," he said, "that those workers who have hit the ball have reported collections equal to or above the overall report average. Only in those divi¬sions where workers have not yet gotten underway have the collec¬tion reports lagged.” Chairman Robinson expressed hope that all divisions would be ready with over-the-top reports at the luncheon Friday. Reports by the divisions with the percentage listed second, follow: military, $73, 96 per cent; contractors, $346 73, per cent; public employes, $2,391, 68 per cent; woman’s clubs, $80, 26 per cent; public service, $1,704, 25 per cent; commercial, $1,597, 12 per cent; women’s, $1,692, 58 per cent; men’s clubs, $125, 50 per cent; industrial $1,728, 26 per cent; transportation, $427, 12 per cent; men’s, $617, 22 per cent. Weber county division made no report Tabulating the incoming reports of the divisions of the Weber county American Red Cross drive is no easy task, but it is ably handled by (left to right) Lew Costley, G. M. Jones and D. Ray Wilkinson. They work while others eat at the report luncheons. In Public Worker Unit Doing their bit toward the success of the public employes division in Weber county American Red Cross fund campaign are (left to right) Athlene Fishburn, Henry Hart and David M. Welling. Division Has Good Mark In Campaign Among the leaders in the 1950 Weber County American Red Cross fund drive is the public employes group which reported 68 per cent of its assigned quota collected. Headed by Ed Vendell as chairman, division workers collected, as of Friday, $2,391. The quota is $3,542. Assisting Vendell in the efforts of the division are team captains James M. Hockaday, covering federal employes; David M. Welling, state; Althene Fishburn, city; Lyman M. Hess, county; Cloyd Bartonek, city schools, and L. Rulon Jenkins, county schools. Red Cross Urges Stepped-up Drive 3/10/50 Renewed efforts were called for in the annual Weber county Red Cross drive today when it was revealed at the second report luncheon that the campaign is lagging behind last year. At the luncheon in Hotel Ben Lomond collection of $18,090 or 40 per cent of the $44,865 goal was reported. Last year at the same time about 60 per cent of the quota had been subscribed, according to Gene Robinson, general chairman. The luncheon was not without its bright spots, however. Hill air force base went over the top by subscribing $2,952 or 111 per cent of its quota, while Utah general depot reported additional collections bringing its amount to $3032, or 144 per cent of quota. Several divisions which have not reported were urged to get their ready for the next report luncheon March 17 at the same time and place. The new reports may make a considerable difference in outlook. |
