The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show FEBRUARY Will Tell Public About Red Cross Making plans for an intensive effort in connection with the Red Cross fund campaign are members of the public information division. Information Unit Vital Cog in Drive An important part of any campaign is to inform the public of the work being done by the organization in charge. Gene Robinson, chairman of the 1950 Weber county American Red Cross drive said today. The public information division, which will endeavor to keep citizens thoroughly apprized of developments, is headed this year by the Rev. D. Atwood Bird. The six committees which will function under Mr. Bird’s direction are headed by the Rev. J. burton Salter, speaker; Darrell J. Greenwell, press; George B. Morgan, radio; William J. Critchlow and the Rev. Harry E. Coulter, churches; Ray Pierson, exhibits, and Mrs. John A. Hendricks and Sarah McCracken, Junior Red Cross. Workers in the public information division will coordinate publicity for the campaign, which officially opens March 6. Drive to Be Extended to Every Home Every home in Weber county will be called on by workers in the residential division of the annual American Red Cross drive, it was reported Saturday by Mrs. Lincoln Ellison, co-chairman. Volunteer workers are expected to take the field following a kick-off meeting of all division workers March 1 at the chapter home, 1961 Washington. Materials for the campaign will be distributed then. Mrs. Ellison will be assisted by four co-chairmen. They are; Mrs. Ted Kirkmeyer, Mrs. Walter A. Hones, Mrs. Carl J. Edvalson and Mrs. C. J. Olsen. “Americans who need help and Americans who want to help are brought together through the Red Cross,” Mrs. Ellison said. “Meeting problems of your neighbors is the daily task of the Red Cross a task in which all may help with their time and money so that the work of mercy may never end.” |
