Show WHEN DISASTER STRIKES—At times of great disasters, like the series of explo¬sions which rocked this oil refinery in Indiana, many may be severely injured. The Red Cross is on the scene immediate- ly, providing help. (UP Photo) Red Cross Drive Opens Monday HELP FOR TRAVELERS—Red Cross volunteer workers in Tokyo answer questions for an Air Force lieutenant on leave. Help in finding billets, arranging sightseeing tours and other services are part of the help the Red Cross extends to the serviceman away from home in a foreign land. "On the Job—When It Counts"—that's the American Red Cross. And that job isn't limited to the borders of the U.S., but extends to wherever American servicemen and their families are stationed. The Far East Command's 1957 Red Cross membership drive gets under way next week. General L. L. Lemnitzer, UNC-FEC commander-in-chief, will officially open the drive Monday with an announcement over the Far East Network. Goal of the campaign is 100 percent adult membership, with con¬tributions of $1 or more entitling the donor to a membership card. Last year nearly $170,000 was contributed by service personnel in the Far East. Numerous U.S. disasters and increased expenditures in foreign areas make the need even greater this year. SNACK TIME—Two volunteer Gray Ladies at the 407th USAF Hospital, FEAMCOM AB, Japan, serve snacks to convalescing patients. Gray Ladies help service patients in countless ways to make their hospital stay brighter and more cheerful. They write letters, read, provide games and refreshments. FIRST AID INSTRUCTION-—Students from St. Maur's School in Yokohama learn the approved method of artificial respiration from Red Cross worker Mrs. Stanley Holland as one phase of their first aid course. First aid and life saving courses are an important part of Red Cross activities for servicemen and their dependents who are in the Far last. HELPING HAND — Michael Miller and Sonia Velde, Junior Red Cross members, paint first aid boxes for their classrooms at the Ash ya AB, Japan, elementary school under the guidance of Mrs. Anna Plumb. The Red Cross needs the help of citizens of all ages in its work. (USAF Photo) WELCOME SIGHT — Red Cross activities extend to wherever U.S. servicemen are stationed. Here, a clubmobile visits troops in Pusan, Korea, with hot coffee and doughnuts. Red Cross workers bring en¬tertainment and a taste of home to servicemen all over the globe. |
