The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show Disaster Units To Be Placed/ By RedCro& Volunteer women workers from the Weber county chapter, American Red Cross, will set up' booths in' three downtown stores Saturday to receive final contributions for flood disaster aid. Booths will be erected at the F. W. Woolworth store. J. C. Pen-ney's and the First Security bank building. The activity is under the direction of Mrs. Milton H. White. The local chapter has been asked to raise $3000 as its share of a five million dollar relief effort in four Mississippi valley states struck/by tornadoes and floods. Montana Also—Maybe Mrs. White said the local chapter may also be called upon to assist with relief work in* Montana where fl'Obds are causing considerable property damage. Contributions to the annual Red Cross fund drive will also be accepted. Persons who have not yet had an opportunity to contribute are especially urged to take advantage of the booths. Otherwise, contributions may be mailed to the chapter home, 1961 Washington Blvd., or a telephone call to 3-8601 will bring a Red Cross representative to pick up the donation. Red Cross Plans to Assist 13 Families Hit by Flood Weber county Red Cross chapters-is assisting or planning to assist! 13 families who suffered property loss and damage during this spring's record floods. Two of the families had their entire home swept away by the raging Weber river. One is a widow with three children. The other is a family of eight. The other 11 families suffered home and farm damage. Assistance may include replacement of home furnishings and repair work. In one case, lost farm equipment is being replaced, said local Red Cross officials. Meanwhile, Mrs. Katherine Hall Chambers, disaster field representative from the Pacific area office, San Francisco, Calif., will return to Ogden Monday and Tuesday to further assist in the relief work. She has been in Ogden since the floods, processing applications for assistance. It was also reported that the local chapter expended $943 during the floods, through their canteen service. Food and drink were served flood workers on both the Ogden and Weber rivers. 'Blood-mobile' Will Return Mobile Unit 4/ Due Thursday To Take Blood A special blood procurement mobile unit from the newly established intermountain regional! blood center at Salt Lake City, will make Its first trip to Ogden Thursday. The 10-bed capacity unit will be staffed by a doctor and five nurses. It has complete facilities for the taking of blood and servicing donors. First donors in the new unit will be some 60 members of the Ogden Elks' lodge, who have volunteered. The unit will arrive in Ogden at • 7;30 a. m. It will probably set up e,t the Ogden Elks' home, 2527 Qrant* Ave. Between 10 and 2 Donors will.be received between 10 a. m. and 2 p. m. In addition to the regular staff of the unit, Red Cross volunteers from the-local chapter will be on hand to assist. These will include the Grey Ladies, nurses' aides, canteen workers and staff aides. Making arrangements for the visit of the unit is Mrs. H. R. Merman. chairman of the Weber county chapter blood program. Assisting her is Mrs. Carl Stark, recruitment chairman. Mrs. Merman said Thursday's visit will be the first of many for the unit in Weber county. It is expected the unit will visit each of the war bases regularly in addition to local communities. Here April 1 , Utah's Red Cro^s ' mobile bloc)(5 procurement unit will make its second visit to Ogden on Tuesday, April 1 when donations will be accepted from the general public. When the unit was in Ogden last week 63 Ogden Elk Adge members donated blood for the armed forces. The completely equipped unit is from the newly established intermountain regional blood center at Salt Lake City. At St. Joseph's Church • During the Second visit, the unit will be placed in operation at the 'St. Joseph's Catholic church, 24th St., and Adams ave. Hours will be from ten a. m. to two p. m,. Local Boy and Girl scrA troops will assist in soliciting honors, sfid Mrs. H. R. Merman, chairman tf the Weber county chapter, blood procurement program. The unit will be fully staffed by a physician and five nurses. Also assisting will be volunteer workers from the local chapter.
