Show AMERICAN NURSES' ASSOCIATION INC. As the 1952 appeal for funds begins, the American Nurses' Association salutes the American Red Cross in recognition of its achievements through the years. This year we wish to pay special tribute to the workers in the Red Cross who gave without stint of their time and energy, faced danger and endured hardships to al¬leviate suffering, both physical and mental, during the great disaster, the Kansas- Missouri flood. We are proud to list many of our members among those workers. The Red Cross, backed by the American people and aided by its one million, six hun¬dred fifty thousand active volunteers, provides blood plasma for the Korean battle front and our civilian hospitals. It teaches people to help themselves, through its classes in first aid, water safety, accident prevention, and home care for the sick. The American people are fully aware of the many services performed by the Red Cross in normal times. They know how these services are extended in times of international crises. We are particularly aware of the greater demands made upon the Red Cross today, as we have many members engaged in teaching millions of first-aiders and giv¬ing instruction in home nursing skills. It has always been an American trait to reach out a helping hand to those in dis¬tress. Therefore, we know that, with that same generosity of spirit, the American people will respond to the 1952 American Red Cross appeal for funds. (Mrs.) Elizabeth K. Porter, R.N. President |
