Show Bohemian Grove Sire 7/17/85 GOOD EVENING, BOHEMIANS AND GUESTS: I am Ed Littlefield, privileged to be your sire this evening. Please join me in expressing our thanks to the Campfire Orchestra under the baton of Earl Murray for the inspiring rendition of the overture setting the mood for the evening. Welcome to our campfire show - "Four Seasons." Despite the title neither the Director Lloyd Hansen nor the General Steward Will Hamilton ever intended that each season would receive equal time. As the program announcement implies, the emphasis is to be on autumn. We quarrel with the view that spring is the very best time to smell the flowers. Flowers can be made to bloom the year round and the sense of smell lasts long after other valued talents unfortunately fade. We subscribe to George Bernard Shaw's proposition that: "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children." And we embrace the sentiment expressed by the luscious Brigitte Bardot who said: "It's sad to grow old - but nice to ripen." Here we may ripen but we refuse to grow old. We believe that time spent fishing or with fellow Bohemians in this Grove is not deducted from one's allotted span of life. So we are here to make the case for those who have passed through spring and summer and are enjoying autumn or even winter. Let's hit the highlights of just some of those great things denied to the young and reserved exclusively for the more experienced (if I can just remember where I put the list. OK, here it is.) |
