Show "IF I MADE A LIST OF EVERYTHING DULL, BANKING WOULD COME OUT ON TOP. IT WAS THE LAST THING IN THE WORLD I WANTED TO DO." "I FIGURED I COULD LEARN ANYTHING GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY, AND I WOULD LEARN ON THE BANK'S TIME." WHATEVER BANKING WAS BEFORE WRISTON, IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN. WALT AND HIS COLLEAGUES AT CITIBANK BECAME THE INNOVATORS, THE PACE SETTERS, THE "NON-PAREILS." THEY MADE THEIRS THE LARGEST AND MOST PROFITABLE BANK IN THE COUNTRY AND A LEADING FORCE IN WORLD FINANCE. WALT WRISTON WAS NEVER CONTENT TO DO IT THE WAY IT HAD ALWAYS BEEN DONE. NOR WAS HE WILLING TO STAND IDLY BY WHILE NON-BANK FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS MOVED IN TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL SERVICES THAT THE BANKS WERE FORBIDDEN BY REGULATION TO PERFORM. WALT WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO COMPETE BUT HE DID WANT A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. HE HAS NEVER SUFFERED FOOLS OR REGULATORS GLADLY. 2. |
