Show I wish I could take credit for hiring him but I cannot. That credit goes to Tony Mecia whom I did install as the first head of the Mining Division when the division was formed in 1958. Even Tony was hired by my predecessor but Tony was the rock on which I expected to build. Tony had a rare eye for talent. His death was untimely and a great tragedy but he left to the company a rich legacy that included such names as Keith Wallace, Charles McArthur, Ralph Long, Ed DeMoss, John Anderson, and of course Bud Wilson. They were destined to do the work yet to do, to build the great company that was then just a vision and a hope. In a time of crisis quality rises to the top. Bud was clearly the leader that his associates turned to for guidance when the division was suddenly and sadly left leaderless. His performance quickly ended any thoughts I may have had to seek a 5. |
