Carroll, San Fran¬cisco, assistant manager of the Pa¬cific area, American Red Cross, will address workers in the Weber county Red. Cross campaign at a "kick-off" meeting Tuesday, Feb. 21, at seven p. m. The meeting will be held at the chapter home, 1961 Washington. All campaign workers are urged to at-tend as supplies will be given out, according to Mrs. Leah P. Green- well, executive secretary. Mr. Carroll has been active in Red Cross work since 1924. He is a native of Colorado and became the first field representative in the Pacific area. He became director of first aid and water safety in 1925. Accident' prevention came under his jurisdiction later. In 1943, he was appointed assist¬ant manager in charge of health education and safety services. The following year he assumed the re¬sponsibility of assistant manager in charge of operations for the Pacific area. Feb 28 Red Cross Opens Office in Hotel Weber county Red Cross chap¬ter has opened art office in the Ben Lomond hotel in preparation for the fund campaign. Campaign material and information may be obtained through the office in room 406. The telephone number is 4687. All divisions of the campaign1 are functioning, with the hope that the goal of $44,865 will be reached within the time set, March 6-20. Edwin H. Carroll Red Cross to Review Fund Growth Friday Division chairmen and team captains in the 1950 Weber count.. American Red Cross drive were reminded today of the second re¬port luncheon, Friday noon in the Hotel Ben Lomond ballroom. All leaders are urged to attend the luncheon and bring reports as to the progress of their divisions, said Gene Robinson, general chair¬man. "At the first luncheon Monday, several of the divisions failed to report," Robinson said. "We espe¬cially urge leaders of these divi¬sions to be on hand Friday." Monday's report meeting saw $9,278 collected or 21 per cent of the total goal of $44,865. Paying the cost of Friday's lunch¬eon will be the Commercial Se¬curity bank, Ogden Ford Sales and the Federal Building and Loan as¬sociation. Laurence S. Burton will be the featured speaker. The Rev. J. Burton Salter will offer the in¬vocation. To attract public attention, a railroad whistle will.be blown dur¬ing the luncheon to mark growth of the fund. One "toot" will be sound¬ed for each $1,000 rung up in the campaign. Citizens Asked to Help Red Cross Governor J. Bracken Lee today asked citizens of Utah to continue their support of the work of the American National Red Cross in the annual fund campaign, which starts March 1. In proclamation calling attention to the contributions made to the nation's welfare by the humani-trian activities of the Red Cross, Governor Lee warned against any Curtailment of the organization's services, particularly in the field of disaster relief and services to the armed forces and veterans. In .his proclamation Lee declared the American Red Cross had achieved an enviable reputation for its humanitarian activities, and has contributed much to the nation's welfare. General Staff of Campaign Named Gene Robinson, is newly-appointed chairman of the Red Cross fund campaign in Weber county. Assisting are W. I. Lowe, Robert W. Grant, Neil Clegg and LaMar Buckner. Broker Will Lead 1950 Fund Efforts Gene Robinson, Ogden canned goods broker, has been chosen j chairman for the 1950 Red Cross campaign in Weber county,- to be held March 6-20, inclusive. LaMar Buckner will serve as vice chair-man. These men will direct the drive for the Weber county goal of $44,865. To aid them in their task will be some 500 volunteer workers. The campaign workers have been divided into 12 divisions, each with a chairman and a vice chairman. The divisions are: Military, indus¬trial, commercial, public employes, public service, transportation, la-bor, men, Weber county, men's clubs, women's clubs. A division has also been set up to dissem¬inate information to the public. The need for the Red Cross was recently emphasized by General George C. Marshall, national Red Cross chairman, when he said: "The American Red Cross has spent $200,000 for January-Febru¬ary flood relief in ten states along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers and the final cost of the operation will be close to $500,000. "Eighty-five national Red Cross workers are guiding volunteers relief operations in 112 counties of the states affected. They are Arkansas, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia'; Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Louisiana and Missis¬sippi.
