Tillotson, chairman. Twenty workers in the division have started collections. Industrial workers in Weber county are being given an opportunity to participate in the 1950 American Red Cross fund drive through the efforts of 20 volunteers. Headed by Leonard C. Tillotson, chairman, and Walter R. Davis, vice chairman, the division made its first report at a luncheon today in Hotel Ben Lomond. Team captains in the division are: David B. Handy, W. W. Purrington, James H. Bischoff and R. L. Van Cleave. “We have received excellent response from those firms already contacted,” Chairman Tilltoson stated. “We hope all others will give the same cooperation and put the 1950 Red Cross drive over the top.” Heading the drive this year is Gene Robinson. Morgan, chairman (left) and Leon Manning, vice chair-man. 2-19-50 County Approves Cross for Drive Weber county commissioners to¬day gave their approval for the erection of an eight-foot cross above the main entrance to the Municipal building for the Ameri¬can Red Cross fund campaign, March 6 to 20. The Rev. D. Atwood Bird, chair¬man of the -public information di¬vision of the drive, said officials had gained the consent of the city for the project. He said the cross would be floodlighted a* night and would be so erected as not to dam-age the building. 18, 1950 Citizens Asked to Help Red Cross Governor J. Bracken Lee today asked citizens of Utah to continue their support of the work of the American National Red Cross in the annual fund campaign, which starts March 1. In proclamation calling attention to the contributions made to the nation's welfare by the humani-trian activities of the Red Cross, Governor Lee warned against any Curtailment of the organization's services, particularly in the field of disaster relief and services to the armed forces and veterans. In .his proclamation Lee declared the American Red Cross had achieved an enviable reputation for its humanitarian activities, and has contributed much to the nation's welfare. First Report Session Set Monday Noon First report luncheon of the 1950 Weber county, American Red Cross fund drive will be held Monday, March 6, at noon in the Hotel Ben Lomond ballroom, it was reported today by Gene Robinson, general chairman. All division chairmen and vice chairman are expected to attend the luncheon to give reports on collections to date. Chairman Rob¬inson will be in charge of the luncheon. Dr. H. A. Dixon of We¬ber college will be the speaker.- Meanwhile, making collections rom personnel of small businesses and offices in Weber county are some 35 workers of the men's di¬vision. James S. Morgan, chairman; and Leon" Manning, vice chairman, said team captains had gotten their workers into activity. Team captains assisting the chair¬man are: Ralph J. Lowe, Charles C. Eubank, Howard Green and Wilbur Cook. "Expenditures by the American Red Cross in aiding our fellowmen have been high," Chairman Morgan stated. "In disasters m a single year the organization, spent $7,640,- 200. Other services are as fol¬lows: For armed services, $18,214,700; for veterans, $17,137,600; to promote health, $7,300,800, and for children, $938,166." Feb. 28, 1950 Red Cross Opens Office in Hotel Weber county Red Cross chap¬ter has opened art office in the Ben Lomond hotel in preparation for the fund campaign. Campaign material and information may be obtained through the office in room 406. The telephone number is 4687. All divisions of the campaign1 are functioning, with the hope that the goal of $44,865 will be reached within the time set, March 6-20. March Chosen as Red Cross Month SALT LAKE CITY. Feb. 28 (AP) Gov. J. Bracken Lee today set aside March as Red Cross month in Utah. In a proclamation the governor said that the Red Cross should be honored during the month because of "its enviable reputation for hu¬manitarian activities" and because it has "contributed much to the nation's welfare." Lee urged Utahns to maintain their "notable record of support" for the Red Cross during its forth-coming fund raising campaign. |
