Show OGDEN KICKOFF 2/5/5 Mercy Group Chief Will Talk at Meet OGDEN (Special) — Delegates from 34 Utah Red Cross chapters and from Elko, Nev., will hear E. Roland Harriman, president of the American Red Cross, Friday during the luncheon meeting of a state conference preceding the annual fund raising campaign for the Red Cross opening March 1. Mr. Harriman, New York banker and railroad executive, is making a tour of principal cities of the nation prior to the opening of the drive. He will discuss, 'Mobilize for Military and Civil Defense." The nature and importance of the duties assumed by the Red Cross in the military and civil defense programs during the pres-ent emergency pjer otf will be pointed out by Mr. Harnmatt dur¬ing the Ogden conference. Also slated to attend the ses¬sions, which open Friday at '9:30 a.m. in the cjiapel of the Weber college institute of, religion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, adjacent to Weber college campus, are Red Cross area officials and local civil defense authorities. They include Col. Alvin Sessions, Utah civil defense committee mem¬ber; Edwin H. Carroll, assistant manager, Pacific area office of the I Red Cross, and O." L. Thoreson, regional director of the Pacific area office. 3/8/51 Red Cross Unit Holds Report Meet at Ogden OGDEN — The first report meeting of the four-week Red Cross fund-raising campaign, Ogden Chapter, will be held Friday noon in Hotel Ben Lo¬mond. Mrs. Wallace M. White, public information director, said Wed¬nesday division captains will report results of the first week drive then. Co-chairmen of the meeting will be E. LeMar Buckner, drive general chairman, and Olin H. Kirie, chapter chairman. The final kickoff meeting for the Women's Division was held Monday, Mrs. White said, and soliciting in that section began the day following. The Ogden Chapter quota is $53,900, $10,000 more than a year ago. Mammoth Blood Lineup Starts At General Depot Lining up to help U.N. forces in Korea, 750 blood donors at the Utah general depot began a three-day collection this morning believed to be the largest mass donation program in this area. Employes at the depot, the volunteers are part of 1250 willing to take part. During the tree days, 250 will be processed each day. Each hour of the day has been divided into three 20-minute periods with ten blood donors scheduled in each period. Directing the giant program are Dr. Enze F. Sestero, director of the Boise regional blood center; Cmdr. Mary Sproul, on loan from the navy to Red Cross as national blood program consultant; Dr. Max Chapman, Pacific area director, Red Cross national blood program, and Mrs. Clyde T. Greenwell, executive secretary of the Weber county chapter of the Red Cross. Mrs. Greenwell said each section at the depot has been responsible for scheduling donors, who have been rolling into the blood donation center on schedule. Both civilians and military personnel are participating. Donations will be sent to San Francisco for distribution as needed. Cmdr. Sproul will help standardize blood donation procedures through the country. Mrs. Greenwell said, with regard to procurement for military needs. During the three-day period Foulger’s coffee gave coffee, Vern Kinghorn is district salesman. Morning Milk was donated by Porter Giles. LaMar Buck¬ner, president, Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce, was named Thursday to head the fund gathering promotion plan¬ned by Weber County chapter, American Red Cross. The drive begins March 5 and ends March 21, Chapter President Olin H. Ririe said. Vice chairmen of the effort are James L. Bush, L. C. Wil- liamsen, Frank W. Hart, and Fred L. Montmorency. Campaign headquarters are being set up in the Red Cross Building at 1961 Washington Blvd., President Ririe said. |
