Show Marriott-Slaterville History May 2014 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History May 2014 Summer is finally here! May was a gorgeous month with beautiful warm weather. Everything is green from all the spring rain we received and the flowers are beautiful. Many residents have planted their gardens in anticipation of succulent fruits and vegetables later in the summer. The 4th of July is just around the corner. Any group interested in a fund raiser should contact the City at [801] 627-1919 ext. 202 about helping with the games. Hope to see everyone there! The recent colossal landslide that buried a community in Snohomish County, Washington brought home the fact that flood and slide disasters can occur in Marriott-Slaterville City as well. Much of our city is located in the flood plain or flood prone areas and in 2011 our City experienced a flood which jeopardized many properties and cost the taxpayers large sums of money. Snohomish County officials were blamed for not doing enough to inform residents of the flood and landslide danger in that community, so our City is informing you now of the disaster danger in flood prone areas of the City. The City has strict standards that preclude much development in flood areas and in accordance with FEMA regulations. Development in flood prone areas is discouraged and notice is given that those who opt to develop in flood prone areas do so at their own risk. Harrisville and Marriott-Slaterville Parks and Recreation are sponsoring a Summer Tennis program in June and July for ages 5 years to adults. For detailed information contact Jim Ito at (801) 731-6777. Volunteers are needed to help clean up our Community Gardens. On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 9:00 am we will be spreading mulch around trees and cleaning the gardens. Please contact DeAnn Hufstetler at [801] 731-5129 or Sandra Saunders at [801] 731-2123 if you can help. Pam Openshaw, lecturer and author of "Promises of the Constitution" will be a guest speaker on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Marriott-Slaterville City Offices. The lecture is free to the public and all ages are invited to attend. The following items were discussed at the City Council Meeting held on Thursday, May 15, 2014: Kent Schofield, Maurice Pitcher and Les Syme were reappointed to the Planning Commission. A second Public Hearing was held for the CDBG program to allow resident's input concerning the project that was awarded under the 2014 grant year for the CDBG program for the state. The City has amended its Capital Investments Plan and opted to apply for funds on behalf of the Marriott Park parking area project at 1051 S 1200 W. Mr. Morris, project manager, said the City will receive approximately $50,000 for this project. Weber County has submitted a new interlocal agreement for road services, which includes pot holes, weed control, mowing and snow removal. The Resolution was approved. |
