On Saturday, Sept. 20, there will be a cultural celebration with dance and music, at the Dee Events Center in Ogden. A day later the Mormon church, in three sessions, will rededicate the temple. Renovations included an exterior change that includes new art glass and stone. Also, the entrance of the temple now faces Washington Boulevard. The open house visits to the temple prior to its re-dedication ended on Sept. 6. It is estimated that more than 500,000 persons toured the beautiful new building. We give kudos to the Top of Utah community for its enthusiasm, with many volunteers at the temple, many visitors, and community residents' patience in dealing with the minor traffic annoyances in the area near the renovated temple. The temple has brought a sort of aura to Junction City. It has raised the interest level and pride in Ogden as well as Weber County. The surrounding streets and neighborhood of the Ogden temple have also benefited. This is an important point. The renovation of the temple, along with the interest, community involvement, and pride in the renovation, will have a transfer effect economically. The presence of the building, its attractiveness, can be a strong magnet toward further economic development in the city. Ogden city is consistently placed as an above-average U.S. location for businesses and quality of living. With the mountains, there are many opportunities for winter sports, other outdoor sports such as climbing, hiking, and fishing. The downtown area, Historic 25th Street, The Business Depot Ogden, and Weber State University, all contribute to economic development and better quality of life. The renovated temple is a worthy addition to all our community offers. |
