Best advice I've ever received: "Play every game like it's your last and enjoy every moment because it goes by quick." Last week: Sagapolu is a force inside for the Region 1 leading SilverWolves (6-0, 14-1). She had 17 rebounds in a 49-32 win over Syracuse and added six points in Friday's 67-14 dismantling of Weber. Sagapolu on her performance: "I think we're working hard every practice and getting better each day. I'm more of a defensive player. My offense is coming slowly. I just do whatever the coach or the rest of the team needs me to do. We have goals set, but we just go game-by- game and day-by-day. It's kind of like stairs working our way up to the top." January 19, 2014 Woman accused of giving alcohol to disabled daughter, 4, goes to court By ANDREAS RIVERA Standard-Examiner staff OGDEN — The woman who was accused of giving her 4-year-old daughter alcohol to the point that the girl was hospitalized appeared in court Wednesday after a lengthy investigation. Raquel Grilho Borce, 32, was charged with second-degree felony child abuse, intentionally inflicting serious physical injury. She made her first appearance in 2nd District Court in Ogden, where her defense attorney requested a preliminary hearing. "We are adamant that she is innocent," said defense attorney Paul Remy. He would not comment further on any facts of the case. On April 11, 2013, paramedics found 4-year- old Le'A Silva drunk and unresponsive in her mother's Marriott-Slaterville apartment. After it was determined she had dangerous levels of al cohol in her blood, she was transported to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The Weber County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation and collected enough evidence to charge Borce later that year. Le'A has advanced cerebral palsy and requires a wheelchair to be mobile and a feeding tube to be fed. Le'A's father, Paul Silva, said there was no way his daughter could be capable of ingesting the alcohol herself; he said he is certain it was Borce who did it. Silva said his daughter is healthy and happy now, but it almost killed her that day — and that requires justice. The preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 25, when evidence will be presented to determine if the case will go to criminal trial. Several members of Bikers Against Child Abuse were present at the courthouse to show support for Le'A and her family. Contact reporter Andreas Rivera at 801-625-4227 or arivera@standard.net. The neat thing about her is that she can guard a big 6-foot-2 (player) and she can also guard a 5-foot-2 guard. It's easy to keep her on the floor. She just attacks the ball really well. She has a good nose for the ball, but it's (more) her desire and her guts. She's starting to get a lot more confident and is figuring out her role. She always does something to help us win." After high school: "I'm planning on going to college for sure and maybe on an (LDS Church) mission." —Chad Pritchett Standard-Examiner |
