Show Police determining which semi at fault in 1-15 crash Monday night By BEN LOCKHART Standard-Examiner staff MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE — The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating what caused two semitrailers to collide Monday night, officials say. The two semis were driving northbound on Interstate 15 near the 400 North exit at Mile Marker 349 when they crashed into one another around 8:30 p.m. UHP Sgt. Todd Royce told the Standard-Examiner that investigators believe speed is likely the main factor. They are still determining, however, whether the truck from behind was moving too fast or whether the truck in front was driving too slowly, he said. Royce said two men, ages 41 and 47, were taken by ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. There were some broken bones, he said, but neither man's injuries were life-threatening. One of the trucks crashed through the concrete barrier in the median. The two semis came to a rest sprawled across northbound 1-15, completely shutting down traffic in that direction until about 1:10 a.m. UHP initially warned that 1-15 could close for up to six hours. One of the trucks was carrying cardboard boxes; the other did not have a trailer attached. Contact reporter Ben Lockhart at 801-625-4221 or blockhart@standard.net.
