Marriott-Slaterville City History October 2014 Two people died after a wrong-way driver caused a wreck on 1-15 near 400 N (Pioneer Road) in Marriott-Slaterville. The crash occurred Monday night, October 20, 2014 after Cory S. Bertine, 28, of Layton, began heading north on southbound 1-15 about 9:40 pm starting at 5600 South in Roy. Bertine hit two vehicles at 400 North while driving against traffic for at least 8 miles. Bertine was driving more than 100 mph. The driver he hit, Carlos Valdez, 56, was taken to McKay Dee Hospital, but died from his injuries on Tuesday morning. There was no indication as to why Bertine entered the freeway going the wrong direction and an investigation is underway. Early voting was held at the Marriott-Slaterville City Hall beginning Monday, October 27 from 9 am to 5 pm and ended Friday, October 31st. The General Election will be held on November 4 . Venture Academy held its First Annual Little Monster Dash 5K Fun Run, Walk and Crawl on Saturday, October 25th at 9:00 am. It was held at the Venture Academy at 495 N 1500 W in Marriott-Slaterville. Cost was $15 per person with early registration. If you registered as a group of 3 or more the cost was only $10 each, and $20 per person the day of the run. Shirts were guaranteed with early registration.
