The third through sixth graders at Venture Academy have been learning about the Colonial period, Civil War and Industrial period for the past few months. During the Civil War when soldiers were injured, they were given handmade quilts, so the students decided to make some quilts of their own. They donate the quilts to a nonprofit organization called Miracle Quilts, which in turn donates the quilts to wounded American soldiers throughout the world. This project helps the students apply the knowledge they gained about the Civil War and how important cotton was at that time, in addition to learning the skill of sewing. An article in the Standard-Examiner featured the many improvements that have been made in the last six months at Toad's Fun Zone and Mulligans Creekside Golf Center under the new management of Pioneer Management Inc. Pioneer Management assumed control of the amusement center and golf course after Intermountain Healthcare purchased the property on January 18, 2014 for future long-term plans. They have hired a new superintendent, Bill Morris, our City Administrator, to oversee the golf course. The new ownership has invested approximately $100,000 into the center so far. It is expected to be at least another decade before Intermountain does anything with the property. Early voting for Primary elections in Weber County for all affiliated Republicans was held at the City offices from June 10th to June 20, 2014, with June 24th being the Primary. There were two candidates vying for the office of County Recorder/Surveyor. |
