Show Fashion Renaissance Women of all 'classes' flaunting their best dress at festival held every weekend through May in Marriott-Slaterville 1C Step back in time at Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire By BECKY CAiRNS Standard-Examiner staff Period garb is encouraged at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Fair but no one will get kicked off the grounds for not being "authentic" enough. "It's kind of just a fun excuse to dress up," said Laura Bedore, a Salt Lake City resident who portrays Queen Elizabeth during the annual event in Marriot-Sla- terville. A long skirt, poofy blouse, waist sash and plain black shoes or boots will suffice nicely for a woman's outfit, suggested Sheri Mathes, a Colorado resident who portrays an attendant to the queen. Don't worry too much about historical accuracy, Mathes said. You'll get props for making an attempt to get into the spirit of the festival, she said, and "by wearing the garb, you're going to feel like you're part of the event." Also, because the fest is a combination of Renaissance and fantasy, there are lots of options when it comes to attire,- Bedore said. "We have fairies and pirates as well as Renaissance garb," she said. The festival is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, May 16, through Sunday, May 18, and May 23-25 at 3105 W. Pioneer Road (400 North), Marriott-Slaterville. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for ages 6-12. Ages 5 and younger are admitted free of charge. Adults wearing Renaissance garb, along with seniors, federal employees and military personnel, receive a $2 discount. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Pack 'N Pounce, an Ogden animal care and rescue organization. For more information or a complete schedule of events, visit www.utahren- fest.com.
