Perry David Bodily Family Darrell Mecham Community Service Bert and Kathy Smith David Bodily Family Following the City Council Meeting the annual City Christmas Party was held in the adjoining Senior Center. Bits and Pieces Doris Ellen Nicholls Tubbs, 85, passed away on December 26, 2014. On Sunday, December 1, 2014 a power outage affected more than 1,100 residents in Ogden, West Haven and Marriott-Slaterville after a pole fire and power line went down. The cause of the downed line and pole fire was unknown. The Central Weber Sewer Improvement District announced plans to increase its monthly user fees. A Public Hearing was held on December 15, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the Sewer District Office located at 2618 W Pioneer Rd in Marriott-Slaterville. An increase of .54 cents per month was approved effective January 1, 2015. Twenty third-grade students from the Venture Academy charter school in Marriott-Slaterville were selected to decorate Gov. Gary Herbert's library Christmas tree with arthropod ornaments. To thank the students, the governor and his wife took them on a tour of the mansion afterwards. An article in the Standard Examiner featuring local restaurants that are happy to help Utahns celebrate special occasions, featured Bella's Fresh Mexican Grill. Sandra Cottam, whose family owns Bella's, said the sombrero tradition is a popular one. Veteran Standard Examiner journalist Lynn Arave wrote an article which reflected on a historical union of West Weber and Slaterville, when on March 1,1891 the two communities were united due to the completion of an iron bridge over the combined Ogden and Weber Rivers. James McFarland of West Weber christened the bridge, and then Richard Slater, 80, walked to the center of the bridge. After the ceremony a tame deer from West Weber ran across the span to the Slaterville side. A jail sentence was handed down Wednesday, December 17, 2014 to a Marriott-Slaterville woman who got her disabled 3-year old daughter drunk to the point of unconsciousness last year. Raquel Grilho Borce was sentenced to one year in the Weber County Jail and three years of probation for inflicting serious injury on her daughter, Le'A Silva, by committing child abuse. An article in the Standard Examiner talked about cold temperatures and high winds keeping local plumbers working overtime on frozen pipes during the last week of December. Mark Pitcher, owner of |
