Show The Pioneer Post Volume XVI Issue 9 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter September 2014 1570 West 400 North - Phone 801 -627-1919 Weber Basin Water The city's secondary water district and all irrigation companies have been informed that Weber Basin Water Conservancy District will turn off all irrigation water on October 1 st rather than October 15th this year as a conservation measure. The city will leave on its secondary water system for residents for a few days longer until our water supplies are exhausted. Please prepare now for irrigation to end the first week in October. 7th Annual Veterans Run Saturday, October 11, 2014, will be the 7th Annual George E. Wahlen Veteran's Home Fun Run & Chili Cook-off. The 5K Run/1 Mile Walk starts at the Veteran's Home at 1102 North 1200 West and ends at the First United Methodist Church. The schedule is as follows: ► 8:30 AM: On-site registration and packet pick-up. ► 9:40 AM: Pre-race ceremony. ► 10:00 AM: Race begins. Non-refundable entry fee: $25 before September 30th and includes t-shirt. $30 same day, no guaranteed t-shirt. Call 801-393-5662 to register. ► 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM: Blood drive at the First United Methodist Church, 1339 West 400 North, ■ sponsored by MountainStar Blood Services. ► 11:30 AM: Chili Cook-off. Sign up at the church or by calling 801-393-5662 or 801-920-1258 before October 4th. This is not a city event, it is sponsored by the First United Methodist Church as a public service. Utah Pirate Festival The 4th Annual Utah Pirate Festival will open right in Marriott-Slaterville City this September 12th to 14th, from 10 AM to 6 PM daily. The festival will feature an amazing array of pirates, mermaids, scalawags, privateers, and buccaneers for guests to enjoy interacting with! Guests can shop for treasures for themselves or someone they love and enjoy great food, music, and entertainment while learning about pirates! Tickets are only $6 for adults and $4 for youth ages 6-12; scalawags 5 and under attend free!!! The festival is located at Mill Creek Hollow Farm, 3109 West 400 North, (Pioneer Road). The Utah Pirate Festival can be easily reached by driving West exactly 1.5 miles from exit 346 of 115. Located in beautiful Marriott-Slaterville City, the festival is sure to be an affordable hit with the whole family! WEBER FIRE DISTRICT The fire district will host a fire prevention open house on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Station 61, 2023 W 1300 N, Farr West, 801-782-3580 . The open house will feature: Smoke Maze, Face Painting, Games, Prizes, Inflatable Slide, Meet Real Firefighters, Life-flight Helicopter, Safety Trailer, Sparky the Dog, and Train Rides. Local Updates • Park Vandalism. Our parks are loved by many and a few vandals are mining them for all. We need your help. A $500 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the vandals who damaged Slaterville Park and Marriott Park this summer. Call the City Office at 801-627-1919 to provide information. If you see vandalism happening or suspicious activity, report it immediately by calling 911. • County Compost. Weber County will no longer accept compost at the compost facility on 2594 W. Pioneer Road. The County asks you to take all compost to the Weber County Transfer Station at 867 Wilson Lane. The new compost rate is $26.00 per ton, with $3.00 minimum. Product prices remain the same.
