Show Marriott-Slaterville History June 2014 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History June 2014 June brought a few days of much needed soaking rain, but weather forecasters said it did not help Utah's drought conditions. Summer rainstorms are not really considered to affect the drought because the vegetation is in full bloom and the precipitation rests on the top areas of soil and is taken up by the plants or the root systems, or evaporates if it's on hard surfaces. The moisture does not reach the reservoirs unless it rains directly on top of them. However, the rain does stop the pull of water off the reservoirs because residents are not (hopefully) watering their lawns or irrigating their gardens. The rainstorms brought anywhere from a trace to a half-inch along the Wasatch Front, but we quickly returned to hot, dry conditions. Upcoming activities for the summer include the Fifteenth Annual Golf Tournament on July 3rd, and the annual July 4 Freedom Celebration at the Marriott Park, in connection with a 5K Run/Walk, breakfast sponsored by the LDS Wards, a parade, lunch and other activities. The annual 2014 Relay for Life event of West Weber County was held on Friday, June 20, 2014 beginning at 6:00 pm at the Municipal Park in Roy. This was an opportunity to honor cancer survivors, raise awareness to reduce our cancer risk, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease. Everyone was welcome! Please keep a watchful eye on your pets. Loose dogs roaming the streets or animals leaving droppings on a neighbor's lawn or on the sidewalk does not make for an inviting and friendly community. Summer Tennis will be held at the Harrisville Park on Highway 89. Sign-ups for the 2nd and 3rd cycles were held at the Harrisville Park on June 21st, 8-10 am. Questions can be directed to Jim Ito at (801) 731-6777. Weber Basin Water anticipates that drought restrictions will be in place again this year, so please don't overwater your lawns and avoid watering during the daytime if you have pressurized irrigation. Since we all use water, everyone needs to do their part and help conserve. At the June 17, 2014 Planning Commission Meeting the Oath of office was administered to Kent Schofield, Maurice Pitcher and Les Syme, whose reappointments were approved by the City Council. A lengthy Public Hearing was held on the Upland Ranches Subdivision located at 2375 W 200 S. Jayson Adam is the developer. Preliminary approval for this subdivision was granted subject to a number of stipulations. A temporary and permanent subdivision amendment and zoning change on a site plan for Venture LDS Seminary at 1500 W 500 N was approved, subject to stipulations. A temporary building will be placed there, followed by a permanent building in the future. |
