Show Standard Examiner Saturday, June 28, 2014 11A Summer deluge blows through Top of Utah By LORETTA PARK Standard-Examiner staff OGDEN — The past two days of rain showers did not help Utah's drought conditions, weather forecasters said. "We don't factor in summer rainstorms," said Brian Mclnerney, hydrologist with the National Weather Service. "Even if we get a half- inch of rain, our vegetation is in full bloom and the precipitation rests on the top areas of soil and is taken up by the plants or the root systems or evaporates if it is on hard surfaces. It doesn't make it to the reservoirs unless it rains right on top of them." Mclnerney said the rain does stop the pull of water off the reservoirs because residents are not watering their lawns or irrigating their gardens. SEE VIDEO ONLINE www.standard.net The rainstorms brought anywhere from a trace to a half-inch along the Wasatch Front. Terry Coburn, public works director for Layton city, said there was minimal local flooding caused by the rain because the city has spent the past 10 years upgrading its storm sewer systems and holding ponds. But even with the upgrades, there were a few areas that had some puddles.
