Any community will likely become quickly overwhelmed in a major disaster. Therefore, volunteers will become our best resource. The community will establish its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to manage a disaster, to assist residents, to gather and distribute information, and to direct volunteers. You can assist the community by becoming an emergency coordinator, obtaining emergency/disaster training, or serving as a volunteer. Also, you can become part of the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT). This team consists of volunteers who receive special training to enhance their ability to recognize, respond to and recover from a major emergency or disaster situation. Contact the city office for more information on volunteer and training opportunities. Marriott-Slaterville City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) No matter how large or small the incident, its occurrence will have a significant impact on the need of the public to access information and resources. During a state of emergency, the demand to provide accurate public information and response will be overwhelming. Local officials will be expected to provide information, command, and control. During the initial threat or occurrence of a disaster within Marriott-Slaterville City, the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) will be activated. Our community's EOC is located at the city office, unless an alternate location is better suited. The local EOC operates under the direction of the mayor, and cooperates with the Weber County EOC and the State EOC, as the case may be. An EOC is staffed by local officials, emergency officials, and support personnel. It exercises policy making responsibility calculated to respond to the challenges presented by a specific disaster. It also disseminates public information via its Public Information Officer (PIO) as the spokesperson for the community. Our community follows the Weber County Emergency Operation Plan, which is complimented by the Marriott- Slaterville City Comprehensive Emergency Plan, depending upon the situation. Assignments will be made in accordance with the Emergency Operations Plan, unless otherwise modified (by local officials) based upon the tactical response to each situation. Also, the chief executive officer involved (mayor or governor) may issue an official declaration of emergency or disaster area. This declaration, and any subsequent actions by the EOC, may impose mandatory curfews, call upon residents to assist, order an evacuation, or issue other directives as may be necessary under the circumstances. |
