I used to have a hard time reading, but she gave me reading timings and now I can go fast. Math is hard, but she taught me some tricks to help me. I like to go ' to Mrs. Pearson's class every day. Here is a Letter from my mom about all of I the stuff Mrs. Pear- 1 son has done for me." "To Whom It May Concern: I wanted to ex- | press my gratitude § for Mrs. Pearson, the Resource teacher at Uinta Elementary. She has worked with my son, Colter, through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and now 4th grade. Mrs. Pearson is an amazing teacher who has helped Colter in so many ways that I hope I am able to express everything she has done on paper. From the very beginning of our association with Mrs. Pearson, I knew that she loved her student and put every effort into helping them improve. She has adjusted programs, ideas and thoughts many times over the years in order to help Colter or push him further along. She's given suggestions for improvement at home and in the regular classroom, and when we have implemented those ideas, things have gotten better for Colter. Mrs. Pearson recently realized what was happening with CoLter in the classroom as he was processing his thoughts out loud. I am positive that before she understood what was going on, Colter's talking was a distraction (he could have been thought of as a "trouble maker"), but Mrs. Pearson took the time to observe Colter and process what might be going on in his head. She then came to the conclu sion that he was processing his thoughts out loud. This is.,a huge realization that | will help him in every I aspect of life. It explains behaviors and reasoning for how. 1 Colter gets through the day. ■.:;.., \ The help that we have been given has not just been during the school year because she has gone the extra mile every" \ summer for the past, four years. She-has,| given me materials;'; Loaned me book's' I and tried in everyway to help Colter retain what he has learned and helped- him get ready for the \\ following year." - Nominated by1 I Colter & Wendee Butters' 2-OH Nominal-ions H6afh6R Waifo, Science Teacher, South Ogden Jr. High Mrs. Waite inspires me to want to learn more each and every day. All of the other kids would make fun of me. She worked a lot with me to bring up my score. It was very hard, I would give up and quit, but she wouldn't let me go have free time until I read for ten minutes. I thought it was stupid for me to read while everyone else was having fun, I would cry about reading, but I learned to live with it. By the half of the school year, she had me at a 2nd grade reading level, but she would still make me read before I had any free time. When my class had the end of the year test, my read ing level was at a fifth grade level. She has influenced and even today I am in 5th grade and now my reading level is at a 12th grade level. I owe it all to Mrs. Furlong, the greatest teacher ever. I would like to thank her, but she moved to a different school I now love reading so much!!
