Show Marriott-Slaterville History May 2014 Bits and Pieces Lewis Theurer Grant, 88, passed away on May 1, 2014 The 9th Annual Utah Renaissance Festival & Fantasy Fair was held once again in Marriott- Slaterville City from May 2-25th, 2014. Two well-known gospel choirs came together for a concert on May 10, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Ogden, located in Marriott-Slaterville City. Featured were the Hilltop Gospel Choir and the Calvary Baptist Inspirational Choir. Tickets were $5 each. The Roy Recreation Complex celebrated its 40 year anniversary this month, complete with a "birthday" cake and many festivities at the complex. Present at the cake cutting was Marriott- Slaterville City resident Virgil Howe, who was the very first manager of the complex, and managed it for 34 years. Current Roy Recreation Director, Travis Flint, presented Howe with an award stating, "He managed the complex for 34 of its 40 years. He worked to make sure programs were running properly. He is the "Godfather" of this facility. He is an outstanding guy who has done outstanding things." Congratulations to Daniel Holley, Claire Patterson, Kealani Sagapolu, Kodee Christoffersen, Austin George, Drew Holley, Brayden Nielsen, Katie Smout, Ashley Bell, Kelton Christensen, McKell Coleman and Cordell Henrie who graduated from Fremont High School and Fremont Seminary this year. On May 15, 2014 Kealani Sagapolu from Fremont High School was recognized as a Standard Examiner All-Star Student Athlete for 2014. The recognition is based on sportsmanship, academics, and performance and epitomizes the best of the best of high school athletes. An article by Lynn Arave in the Standard Examiner dated May 16, 2014 entitled Willard Bay Water Project Was Authorized by Confiress in 1949 made reference to the Slaterville Diversion Dam. The dam dates back to pioneer time. Surplus water from the Weber River and its tributaries, which cannot be controlled by mountain reservoirs, as well as winter releases through Gateway and Wanship power plants and other private utilities, would normally flow into the Great Salt Lake. This surplus water is diverted from the Weber River at the Slaterville Diversion Dam. Barbara Webb Barrow from Marriott-Slaterville celebrated her 80th birthday on May 31 with an open house at the Marriott-Slaterville Cultural Hall. The Riverton Silverwolves topped the Fremont Silver Wolves for the 5-A state soccer championship title by a 1-0 score on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Rio Tinto Stadiuim in Sandy. Marriott-Slaterville resident Brayden Nielsen is goalkeeper for the Fremont Silver Wolves. |
