After capturing the first state girls basketball title in school history Saturday, the Silver Wolves would be better suited as the Golden Wolves, as in gleaming championship gold. "I could not ask for anything more — no better teammates or coaches," said Fremont senior point guard McKenzie Burrows, while clutching a piece of the net that the team cut down after spanking youthful American Fork 60-27 in a one-sided state 5-A title game at Salt Lake Community College. The Region 1 co-champion Silver Wolves (23-2 overall) capped the 2013-14 season on a six-game winning streak, while going 21-1 in their last 22 games. "There is no way not to be close for how much time we put in," said the 18-year-old Burrows, who had seven points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal and no turnovers in 27 min utes. "It has made us a family. This feels so good," she said. Fremont was making just its second girls basketball championship game appearance since the school opened its doors in the fall of 1994. Under then-coach Gina Butters, the Silver Wolves fell to undefeated Bingham 26-24 in the 1995 5-A title game at SLCC, when it was located in Salt Lake City. American Fork*, the fourth-place team from Region 4, last played for a state title in its 2009 5-A championship season. "This is so overwhelming, but there is not a better feeling in the world," said Burrows, who has signed to play both women's volleyball and basketball at USU Eastern. "I think the celebration will last a long time. "The (school) prom is tonight and I have a date," she said. "The team will take pictures at the prom at (Ogden's) John Watson Chevrolet."
