Show Wednesday, April 23, 2014 Standard-Examiner Copter video catches end to 4-county chase By ANDREAS RIVERA ■FARR WEST- — The two men involved in a high- speed police pursuit that spanned four counties were identified Tuesday. Justin St. John and Rodney Mil- ligan were booked into Summit County Jail on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing drug paraphernalia, having an open alcohol container in a vehicle and fleeing a law enforcement officer. Milligan, the driver, was also charged with evading a police vehicle. St. John Milligan Both men are ex-convicts with prior felony drug charges, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. They were in a stolen vehicle from Colorado, with two different license plates. The chase began in Summit County after a sheriff's deputy pursued a gray Honda sedan that was driving recklessly and going in excess of 100 mph. The vehicle made its way westbound on Interstate 80 to Salt Lake City, then turned north on Interstate 15. As the car reached We- SEE VIDEO ONLINE www.standard.net ber County, a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter caught up to the vehicle and relayed its movements to pursuing patrolmen. By that time, multiple units from Highway Patrol, Davis County and Weber County were in pursuit. The suspect vehicle was spiked multiple times by police until it finally lost a tire at about 400 North in Weber County The vehicle exited the freeway and continued westbound into Farr West, at which point ground vehicles stopped pursuit and allowed the helicopter to continue following until they came to a stop at 3600 W. Pioneer Road. Footage from the helicopter, obtained by the Standard- Examiner, shows Milligan and St. John scrambling to hide from approaching police, mostly in vain, as the helicopter continued following them as they ran. They jumped into a resident's backyard seeking a place to take cover. One of the suspects surrendered and laid facedown on the driveway just as police pulled up. It wasn't long before the second suspect was discovered by police, pulled from beneath a trailer and arrested. Contact reporter Andreas Rivera at 801-625-4227 or arivera@standard.net.
