Show AWARDS GIVEN TO GIRL SCOUTS Nine Members of Troop 14 Win First Red Cross Honor June 1941 Nine members of Ogden Girl Scout troop 14 and two troop moth¬ers have won the distinction of receiving the first Red Cross awards in Home Hygiene and Care of the Sick certificates to be made to a Girl Scout troop in Ogden. Special commendation was given the group by Red Cross officials of San Francisco, by Mrs. Katherine Echenbrecht, instructor, and her assistant, Miss Ruth Ellison. The awards were presented by Mrs. Clyde Greenwell, executive secretary, Ogden chapter, American Red Cross, at the home of Mrs. Leonard G. Diehl, 2402 Taylor Avenue, when members of troop 14 were honored at a garden party. Mrs. Diehl was assisted by Miss Marion Smith, troop leader, Mrs. H. F. Irwin, Ogden Girl Scout Council member, Mrs. Erda Light- foot and Mrs. Ann Loveless of the class committee. Senior awards were made to Mrs. Erda Lightfoot, Mrs. Ann Loveless, Bernice Lightfoot, Lois McBride and Shirley Horspool; Junior awards were given to Beverly Horspool, Wanda Manfreda, Ouida Hunter, Colleen Layne, Neva Il¬ium and Beth Law. The instructors were presented gifts by the troop members. Mrs. N. J. Brown, Ogden Girl Scout director, conducted an in- vesture of the following awards to troop 14 at the last regular meet¬ing: second awards, Beth Law, Sophie Stather, Neva Rae Ilium, Carol Minchy, Elaine Stather, Beverly Loveless, Dorothy Jane Lightfoot, Athena Stather, Ruth Opheikens, Dixie Busenback, Jean- nine Hart and Geraldine Shumway. Girl Scout Home Nursing badges were presented to Neva Rae Ilium, Ouida Hunter, Beverly Horspool and Colleen Layne. The troop was complimented by Mrs. Brown, who also extended her appreciation to troop leaders Mrs. Leonard Diehl and Miss Marion Smith, on the splendid work that the troop had done in earning awards, in selling 150 boxes of candy in the past two weeks, and on the fact that 10 troop members plan to go to Camp Redcliffe during the summer months. |
