Show ARC 400-3 Sept. 1939 Code K 2-B (sleeveless) K 4-B (with sleeves) SLIP-ON SWEATER (With or without sleeves) 1 pair Red Cross Needles No.3 Wool for sleeveless sweater about ¾ lb. Wool for sweater with sleeves about 1 ¼ lbs. Cast on 78 stitches, K 2, P 2 across; P 2, K 2 back from 4 inches. K plain 17 stitches. (A) K 28 stitches; V 2, P 2, for 22 stitches; K 28. (B) K 28 stitches; P 2, K 2, for 22 stitches; K 28. Repeat (A) and (B) for 12 rows (2 inches). K 28 stitches; bind off 22 stitches (neck); K 28. 1st Shoulder---K 2, P 2 for 28 stitches; then K 2, P 2, back over the 28 stitches. Edge. Break off wool and tie it on at neck-opening for 2nd Shoulder—P 2, K 2, for 28 stitches; then P 2, K 2, back over the 28 stitches. K and P back and forth in this way 15 times, which leaves the wool at outer edge. K plain 28 stitches; east on 22 stitches; and K Plain across the 28 stitches of 1st shoulder © K 28 stitches; P 2, K 2, for 22 stitches; K 28 (C) K 28 stitches; K 2, P 2, for 22 stitches; K 28 Repeat ( C) and (D) for 12 rows (2 inches) K plain 17 inches. K 2, P 2, across, P 2, K 2 back for 4 inches, Bind off loosely. Sew up sides, leaving 9 inch armholes. Single-crochet 1 row around neck and armholes Measurements---Neck (when stretched), 11 ½ to 12 1/8 inches; across chest (not stretched) 17 to 20 inches. Chapter Label-should be sewed inside the back at top of sweater. TO ADD SLEEVES (Wool: About ½ lb.) Working from right side pick up and knit 74 stitches around armhole. Knit ack and forth decreasing 1 stitch at each and every sixth row 5 times. (to decrease knit 2nd and 3rd stitches as one) Work even for 6 ½ inches, or until sleeve is 10 ½ inches long. Then decrease at both ends every 8th row 4 times; work even till sleeve measures 17 inches. Then knit in ribbing of, knit 1, purl 1, for 4 inches for the cuff and bind off. When this is done, with an elastic stitch sew up sides and sleeve in one seam. A smaller needle may be used for cuffs if desired, this making the cuff fit snug to the wrist, or before beginning the purling for cuff the stitches may be slipped on to 3 smaller needles and knit 1, putl 1, round and round, as for socks. This saves a seam in the cuff. (OVER) |
